Dancing With Crazies opens September 29 at the Lounge Theatre
Everyone needs a place where they feel they belong. Call it "home" if you wish. In "Dancing With Crazies," Amy Milano's autobiographical romantic comedy, she never feels at home while she is being raised by her single mother. Life is always transient. She manages to get an education and becomes a dancer. She becomes a world traveler, and her adventures take her to London, Jamaica, Spain and Ghana. Looking to make a difference, she travels the villages of Ghana , becoming the first person ever to teach tap dance in this country.
Becoming an attractive adult woman, part of her story is about the men in her life. An adoring brother died when she was very young. She tracks down her long-absent father and his new family. Most of them attempt to make her feel welcome. She has several romances, some serious, some not-so-serious. In addition to being a dancer, Amy acquires a variegated resume of employments diverse enough to make her an interesting woman.
Will she finally find the Right Guy and a place called home?
"Dancing With Crazies" is a woman's story, and the show will resonate most strongly with women, particularly with women who have also sought that sense of belonging, whether it's for a home or with a partner. It's also about the power of dance to get a person through the day.
Husbands and boyfriends will do well to accompany the women who will flock to this show. They'll gain some insight.
